TOWING: HOW MUCH CAN THE DODGE DURANGO, JOURNEY AND GRAND CARAVAN HANDLE?

Dodge towing. Durango Journey Grand Caravan

With winter right around the corner, now is the perfect time for a fall camping trip. The crunching of red and orange leaves, the smell of a campfire and the toasting of smores with your family and friends is a magical experience that is only attainable around this time of the year. And Dodge is making it more accessible to experience those memories with your family and friends with the Durango, Journey and Grand Caravan, which are able to tow most typical trailers for boats, campers, power-sport vehicles and snow machines! As always it's good to read up on safety rules and regulations related to towing before you or your family and friends go on a trip, as well as taking a look at our common towing tips!

Safety Tips

  • Keep in mind the weight of all of the gear you pack and water you bring; a 48 gallon tank of fresh water weighs around 400 pounds!
  • When towing a small utility trailer such as a U-Haul, be sure to keep the weight in the front of the trailer rather than the back to avoid excessive trailer sway and loss of control
  • Towing mirrors cannot extend further than 8 inches beyond the width of the trailer
  • Never exceed your vehicle's recommended Towing Capacity and GVWR, Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, found in your owners manual
  • Know your local and or destination's towing laws
